Christmas in the City: 04

The Franklin Road fairylights are a bit of an institution when it comes to Christmas in Auckland. As long as I’ve lived here, no Christmas is complete without a trip. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Franklin road is quite a nice street in Ponsonby in Auckland with lots of great old houses. Every year the majority of the street slathers their homes in fairy lights, creating a gorgeous and slightly overwhelming attraction.

This year I headed down with my mother, sisters and our friend Geoff. Driving in was awful as Ponsonby road was gridlocked with people on their way to the lights. Outside the car was not much better with way too boozed people sliming their way up the road. It was pretty uncomfortable really as it made me wonder, ‘Christ, I wonder how bad I am to onlookers in the same state.’

The street itself was amazing however, as usual and I really enjoyed the amount of buskers/ choirs/ harps?! out this year. I think I may be finally getting into the Christmas music vibe. Eek!
