Following on from yesterday’s post, after enjoying the beauty that is the The Arrival my sisters and I moved to another beautiful activity. Ice skating in Aotea Square.

It was wet and slightly miserable but under the cover of the pavilion we paid our entry and skate fee hire, slid on our boots and hit the ice. It’s not exactly a normal sight to be ice skating in Aotea Square, but this winter Paradice have set up shop to put on something pretty for the city. Adorned in ice blue, twinkling fairy lights the ice looks beautiful at night and we had a lot of fun skating around. Lucy, had a bit of trouble but soon got into it, while Isabel and I skated away. I was pretty impressed with myself, for someone who is terribly clumsy I skated away from the sides and didn’t fall over once! After an hour (you get up to 90 minutes on the ice with entry) we headed off for a bite to eat, but not easily. The girls were pretty dark about having to leave and are asking to go again and again.

It was fairly pricey, after boot hire, entry fees and one of those starter frames it was about $60. ($20 entry for adults, children $15, $55 for two adults and two kids, skate hire included, $6 for frames, $3 for a locker etc) But the girls really loved it which made it worth it. And it is just so so pretty! My one complaint – the boots hurt my arches, but oh well.

During the day time, and I’m assuming when it’s not raining there’s also a carousel and a ride. Wintery fun!
