I’ve always been reckless and foolish…

There’s a sense of excited anxiety in the air. A buzzing noise. Playful banter. There’s music on in the background. Adam’s lying on a bed. His face almost devoid of expression. Today he’s getting his first tattoo. A graduation gift, thought up by Bain, crafted and executed by Josh Solomon and gifted by me. Rebecca is here as well.

We’re at Two Hands Tattoo, a little joint up some stairs on Ponsonby road. It’s one of those places to go to. Going by client recommendations its probably one of the best tattoo joints in the city. The staff are cool and I sort of feel like I’m hanging out with City and Colour. Don’t ask me why. It’s an atmospheric thing.

Adam’s getting a mariachi man, playing a guitar. It reminds me of summer and magaritas, live music, dancing barefoot and fish tacos. Summer brilliance.

Nearly two hours in, he’s still calm and collected. Anyone would think he’s just watching tv or something.Rebecca and Bain have left, but we were a bit of a fan club. Snapping photos. Getting hyped.

3 hours later it was all finished. Beautiful, achey and bleeding.

To be continued…
