Christmas is Coming: The Kiwi Table Setting

What do you think of come Christmas? Once you battle your way through the Northern Hemisphere propaganda of snow and warm drinks, what makes a kiwi Christmas?

That’s what I had in mind when I crafted the above table setting.

I grabbed some old jars from under the sink and some empty toilet rolls. I spray painted them gold and white and then arranged them in a random fashion across the center of the table.

Into the jars and rolls I poked pohutakawa flowers from a local park and greenery of local trees. The finishing touch was a handful of gold and red baubles from Kmart and some red berries from a $2 shop at St Luke’s.

Strewn across a white table cloth, it made the perfect centerpiece for a kiwi Christmas. White, red, green and gold as per usual but still our own (with no mistletoe or holly in sight!)
